This is a panegyric in Arabic consisting of ninety two lines. It was composed extempore by one Shaikh Muhammad Ali who was born in Rampura, a town in old Matwa (Central India) now known as Madhya Pardesh. It was composed in honor of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Its contain words none of the dotted letters of the Arabic alphabet. Further it is composed of four Arabic alphabets, which have the numerical value of 4+40+8+40 whose total will be 92 (numerical value of word "Muhammad" is also 92).
The occasion on which it was composed extempore is described thus in the preface of the printed edition of a Magazine “Al-Hikma” as under:-
In a gathering of learned persons at the residence of Nawab Azam Jah Bahadur, there was a talk about Arabic literature. The Nawab said that they all lived in an age when there was deterioration of standards. Language and literature had suffered a set-back on account of the dearth of eloquent writers. There was none whom we could point out as a notable celebrity and who called compose poems in praise of the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him). The poet Muhammad Ali was present in that gathering. He paused for a while and then recited this Qasidah extempore. In this poem, he has exhibited mastery, which is indeed very rare. The Nawab thereupon embraced him and every one present paid him a high tribute.
Translation of this Naat Sharif is as under:-
By your life, Ahmad is worthy of eulogy and praise; Ahmad is the fittest person for panegyric under all circumstances.
He is Hamid (one who praises) and Mahmud (one who is praised) and he is an ocean of goodness; compared to him, all prophets are periods of times whereas he is eternity.
He ranks above all dignitaries and his base is the permanent base for the secret of the divine knowledge.
Salam (i.e. Allah) invited him and showered on him His blessing and Gabriel proved him worthy for praise.
He loved him and God made him incharge of the universe; he guided all of them while all were steeped into darkness.
Did any one offer prayers, as did the honored prophet? And did any one fast as did the exemplary lover (i.e. Muhammad).
By your life, he helped all the prophets and consolidated their affair; he became the chieftain of the whole world; Muhammad became the pivot of all affairs.
And he laid stress on the law of Allah knowing fully well that the most beneficial law is one, which is emphatic.
He is the main highway to the house of peace (Paradise) and a ladder; the laws framed by the Prophet of Allah are the most beneficial for the soul.
He is the Prophet who guarded that which Allah covenanted for the mankind; on account of his covenant mosque is always full with prayerful devotees for Allah.
He is the Prophet who is accustomed to do the rightful thing; no fear can ever daunt him.
If he desires, he will make a decaying bone talk and he will turn a hard rock soft just like a tender thing.
The Prophet is the fountainhead of all secrets and he is the source of all noble qualities.
He is the just ruler whose command is obeyed; every one whether Arab or non-Arab submits to him.
His path (code) invited all people to Islam; He is the rightful leader for all the righteous persons.
Beware; there is no prophet who can be the most merciful of all like Muhammad (Peace on him); there is no rope like that of Islam, which is strong for the cause of Allah.
He is the one who is most generous as long as the lightening will shine and the cloud would rain and the hoopoe will chirp.
He gives bounty before he hears a petition or before a trembling petitioner opens his lips.
On account of the bounty of the Prophet of Allah their minds are full of joy and the petitioner finds their tables served with rich food.
The kind acts of the pious Muhammad are a surging ocean; He is fluttering banner of Allah indicative of kindness.
He is the permanent rain of the perfection of Allah; may His wine be lasting; and may it reach him as long as the beautiful thing has attraction.
He made lawful all that Allah made lawful and he strengthened His rope; he will repel every thing unlawful under any circumstances.
Knowledge of all the prophets is like the water of tributaries whereas the knowledge of the Prophet of Allah is like an ocean.
The place of the computation of Allah is the aim of his effort; the return is provided if the desire is fulfilled.
The prophet rose to the highest point and so did the members of his family for proving them even an infidel came, what to speak of the faithful.
They are all people of principles and as such they have attained all heights; their height is above the highest point of the universe.
They are the people of Allah and all of them are intent upon reforming the society in every age.
Their power repulsed falsehood of the people; for them a warrior shot the arrow.
They all tried for glory in the name of Allah; may their clouds shower rain on all; had it not been on their account, there would not have been any piety or leadership.
On account of their sword; heads of the leaders of the infidels were cut and their abodes became ruins in time.
They deserve the pure eulogy and all of them are singularly efficient in averting calamity.
By your life, Islam is nothing but affection for them; they are the straight path and others are crooked path.
Their chieftain is Muhammad (Taha) who is a raining cloud of blessings and their abode is a fine place of joy.
He is the Prophet whose raise is explicitly mentioned in the Holy Book of Allah; The Hadith of “Lolaka” is a kingdom unachieved by any great man.
He has a banner, which he gave to the father of his children; he entrusted him with his secret while he was suffering from eyesore.
He invited him to avert the calamity while the sky was overcast with clouds of dust and his army was a cause of terror.
He frightened the inhabitants of castles who were lords possessing a specious kingdom.
They ran away from the path to which the Prophet of Allah invited them and defended them like an immovable mountain.
All when he saw them persisting in their disobedience, he sent towards them a hero who was invincible.
His sword showed them the days of destruction and brought them to the brink of death on account of their disobedience.
His sword cuts through the middle of the skull and his spear passed through the chest of warriors.
Did he not fight with ‘Amr b. Wad and broke his sword; did he not shed his blood as butter pours out from a bag.
Did he not drink the cold cup of love for Allah alone and did he not hasten towards the pond of death when he was still beardless.
He is firm in the love of the Prophet and he is the lion of the battle, one who is judicious will remember him and one who is deviated from the path will oppose him.
Did he not trample the lions of death and destruction when he went out; did he not repel an opponent when he cried out the name of Allah.
He was pious and generous; he was the champion of virtue; he was the lord who awakens to great adventures.
He was the gist of creation and Allah extracted his secret; Muhammad praised him, as did Allah.
He poured (in generosity) like the heavy clouds; he walked in the thick of the battle; He is the noble challenger who averts calamity.
He is the basis of piety; the Prophet tested his ability and thought him fit for an affair while all were awake.
O father of the children of the Prophet and O soul of his! Is there any shelter for a man whom time frightens, except you?
The wound of your affection is a shield against time and there is no refuge and shelter except your protection.
Is there any hope in a calamity except you? And is there any one to ward off the worries except you.
A calamity which broke the backbone of a man, has befallen. But for you, Allah will not allow anyone to go from the bank of water.
Beware, try to grasp that secret for which he spent whole of his life; it is the strong affection.
He is the teacher of the spirit of Allah (i.e. Jesus) who restored the eyesight to the blind and looked after a man whom physicians discarded.
He is the teacher of Spirit of Allah (i.e. Jesus) and the knowledge of Allah is thirst; But for you, there will be no access to knowledge.
With his peaceful defence, I repel the evil time and peace is most happy thing for a man.
I do not expect anyone except you at the time of the approach of death; I shall approach you for the whole of my life.
If your mercy intends to give life to a dead body, it will be revived and will enjoy a long life.
O secret of the knowledge of Allah and O master of His secret, does a panegyric composed by Muhammad (the poet himself) not please you?
Is the master of angels of heavens and their leader firm in obeying the order of any other except you (Prophet)?
His love is soothing for the protection of peace. For his friend, spirit of Allah is pitched as a tent.
He is kind and bountiful when he is in a state of prayers. He is generous and feeding (the poor) when there is severe famine.
He is generous to the fortunate and he ever helps the needy and indigent. He comes to the rescue of him who cries for help and is oppressed.
His sword struck the head of “Sawa” and “Vad” and the enemies became a harvest of the swords.
How many people took advantage in his time and when he came out, the Jews willingly embarrassed Islam.
To his sword fell Muhalhil (b. Fayyad) as a captive and how many evil warriors fell a victim of his anger?
How much property he spent for the sake of Allah and how many difficult situations he tided over while he was resting?
He is generous to all; he has all that which the Prophet has in pedigree and qualities while all others are of mixed race.
The prophet is the object and aim of Allah, who has eternal praise and everlasting eulogy.
He is the prophet who restored to life many a dying person and returned many unhappy persons in happy moods.
He is the death for those who did not embrace Islam and he is the leader of those who did not desert him.
When he showed them all that they desired, he returned from them and they turned away their faces.
When they (Quresh) disobeyed him, he turned towards Aus and left Mecca on Monday.
Beware, his panegyric is the death if he terrified or struck on who praised. He has a cradle of peace ready for him.
Taha (i.e. Muhammad) is one who is admired by all prophets. He is the most fortunate and most alert of all of them.
Is there any refuge for a man at the time of death except him when the stick will finally dry and wither?
Is there any one except him on whom the whole world depends? Is there any messenger of good tidings except him who warns all (against hell fire).
For your friend, O holy Prophet, there is the friendship of Allah; He has extricated that man who cherished pure affection for Allah.
Did pebbles not glorify Allah on account of his perfection? And did a lion not talk to him and did an unbeliever not embrace Islam at his hands?
On account of your name, O Prophet, there is death of those who were bewildered in your glory and who doubted.
I entertain a desire which if attained shall be the outcome of the generosity of the Prophet again and again.
Beware, your slave is repentant of the sins, which are immense and the time is unkind and mean.
Beware, the whole life is spent without praying and fasting and I never desired to have piety and I did not drive away evil.
But for your generosity, which protected him, he would have perished on account of heavy burden of sins.
O Prophet of Allah, how long shall I be deprived while the people attained their desire when they called for your help and sought your protection.
O Prophet of Allah, I seek your protection. There is kindness in your heart when a seeker of it comes.
Under any circumstances, I crave for a pius state of life and I compose your panegyric.
I pray, O prophet of Allah, and desire your bount. Is there any help for any seeker except him.
Muhammad (the poet) the son of Wadood craves, O Prophet, for comfort and solace in praising you.
Beware, take this string of praises numbering according to the name (Muhammad) of the Prophet of Allah.May God invoke His eternal blessings on your grave so long as the cloud pours rain. I praise near the grave enclosing all the virtues.
